Time to Cowboy Up

Okay, I was rollin' along doing the Slick 50 and who did I encounter as we cruised up West River Road but Mr. Fitzgerald who hails from Burleigh f@ck#n* County (Hurl and I hail from said county). After making a bit of small talk and catching up on important things such as his 93-year-old grandpa, who is still ranching in SoDak, Fitz cut to the chase.

"Have you registered for the 5-O, Sean?"

"No."

"Well, the field has been capped at 500 this year. Online registration is open, and Perry has a fair number of registrations already. There is going to be no registration on race day."

Okay, I've been warned. You've been warned. There were 398 racers in 2009. Word of mouth on the race is fantastic so chances are the field will fill. If you have been entertaining thoughts of riding the 5-O sign up soon. The link for the 10th anniversary race is here:

Unfortunately, Thorny and Tommy Mac, the Citadel Slide is no longer part of the course as is the hellish uphill preceding. However, we'll still need to get up and over that same ridge from the last aid station and it's all new singletrack. Perry and his Ridge Rider crew only build quality singletrack so the new stuff is bound to be fun.

Don't let the Wrangler skinsuit in the picture fool you. The course is challenging. The scenery is spectacular. Every year I make certain to pay attention when I'm rolling along Spearfish Canyon because I don't want to miss the spots on the trail where I can see the creek 700 feet below. If you want to test yourself on a course with some quality singletrack and great scenery then the 5-O is for you. Perry and his army of volunteers are fantastic hosts. Let them show you all Spearfish, S.D., has to offer.

2010 Kit Order!!!

Hey Kcrew-

I have very exciting news…the Kenwood Racing 2009 kit was such a huge success that we are getting requests to order some more for the 2010 season. So, if you wished you would have order more last season or missed out, you might now have a chance. Due to the overwhelming interest, we have also decided to add to our huge offering of items a long sleeve skin suit for the cyclocross season!

Here’s the catch…we need to have a minimum order of 10 items to be able to place and order. So, if you send me an order request and we do not hit the minimum, you are out of luck. So, the plan is to email me your request at payupkenwood-racing@comcast.net and make sure you include item(s), size(s) and quantity(ies) and I will reply back with a yeah or neigh. If it is a yeah, then I will give you payment instructions which will be via Paypal. Here is the list of items available for order and there cost:

Gathering Wood at ASCIHFIRASDFCHC

There were a few Kenwoodies at A Snowball's Chance but fewer than in years past. Here is a little taste. The loud exclamations you hear in the background are for Ben who was tearing down the slope on Mike's ski bike and buried his ski's tip under a hidden branch and completed one of the finest demonstrations of the principle of inertia I have ever witnessed.

If you weren't there you missed out. The weather was excellent. The double-figure-eight track was a blast. The location allowed the ski bikes to slide right into the fun. The beer was cold. The fire was warm.

As for this little movie clip it just shows that when it comes to gathering wood nobody can match B-Rad. Nobody.

Happy Birthday, TMac!!

We've been slugs, so I thought I'd post something, anything.

This is the view from the Presidio Yacht Club. Yes, it's the actual view. Note the sunglasses and gloves in the foreground. This place has tasty burgers, fine beers, and the most unbelievable view. And it's a dump.

I mean that in a good way. I love dives. It's like any bar in Nordeast except it has a really, really nice view--oh, and four burgers and fries with eight beers will set you back less than $75 sans tip.

The other nice thing about it is you can do this super cool ride to the Marin Headlands rolling across the Golden Gate Bridge, climbing Hawk Hill, zooming down to Rodeo Beach, and then screaming back through the tunnel to the bar. If the road isn't to your taste there is some tasty single-track about 3/4 of a mile up the hill after you have crossed the bridge

If you are visiting San Francisco you must ride to this bar. They have a web site. Look it up. Call ahead. When we rolled in they had opened early for a friend which turned out nice for us. We knew they opened at 4 pm and we rolled in at 3:20 in hopes they were open and they were. Picture taken December 18th, 2009.
